Record #130266:

Glaciological constraints on protalus rampart development / Colin K. Ballantyne, Douglas I. Benn.

Title: Glaciological constraints on protalus rampart development / Colin K. Ballantyne, Douglas I. Benn.
Author(s): Ballantyne, Colin K.
Benn, Douglas I.
Date: 1994.
In: Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1994.), Vol. 5(3) (1994)
Abstract: Growth of protalus ramparts is self-limiting as continued thickening of firn field will cause transformation of firn into small glacier. Develops model establish probable constraints in terms of maximum distance that can exist between crest of protalus rampart and talus foot upslope before either significant downslope movement of firn field occurs or gradient of firn field is reduced by movement to angle below threshold for gravitational transfer of debris.
