Abstract: Former existence of lake, which, at various times, covered large areas of what is now Manitoba, has been accepted since end of 19th century. It formed about 11.5 ka BP as Quaternary ice melted. Discusses effetc on vegetation and animal life, and points out that sand and gravel from lake basin play an important part in present-day construction in Manitoba.
