Ice formation in an estuarian salt marsh, Alaska / Susan Taylor, Charles H. Racine, Charles M. Collins, Elizabeth Gordon.
Title: | Ice formation in an estuarian salt marsh, Alaska / Susan Taylor, Charles H. Racine, Charles M. Collins, Elizabeth Gordon. |
Author(s): | Taylor, Susan. Racine, Charles H. Collins, Charles M. Gordon, Elizabeth. |
Date: | 1994. |
In: | CRREL Special Report. (1994.), Vol. 94-17 (1994) |
Abstract: | Extensive sheet of ice builds up during winter in salt marsh at mouth of Eagle River, near Anchorage. In order to clarify how snow accumulation, periodic tidal flooding, and fresh-water flow contribute to this ice cover, ice cores were taken along transect beginning at deep pond on edge of marsh and proceeding across marsh, shallow pond and mudflat. Ice structure, salinity, and thickness, and presence or absence of sediment bands in ice are described and were found to change markedly along transect. |
