Record #129793:
Numerical avalanche predictions: Kootenay Pass, Bristish Columbia, Canada / David M. McClung, John Tweedy.
Title: | Numerical avalanche predictions: Kootenay Pass, Bristish Columbia, Canada / David M. McClung, John Tweedy. |
Author(s): | McClung, David M. Tweedy, John. |
Date: | 1994. |
In: | Journal of Glaciology. (1994.), Vol. 40(135) (1994) |
Abstract: | Scheme was developed for highway applications. Model features parametric discriminant analysis using Bayesian statistics to predict avalanche occurrence. Cluster techniques are then employed in discriminant space to analyze avalanche occurrences by method of nearest neighbours. Extensive numerical testing of model using historical database indicates that prediction accuracy may be 70% or better for both avalanche and non-avalanche time intervals. |
