Record #129722:

Genesis of Boston Harbor drumlins, Massachusetts / William A. Newman, David M. Mickelson.

Title: Genesis of Boston Harbor drumlins, Massachusetts / William A. Newman, David M. Mickelson.
Author(s): Newman, William A.
Mickelson, David M.
Date: 1994.
Abstract: Drumlins in this location are composed of two superposed units: lower is pre-Wisconsin till and upper is Late Wisconsin sands and gravels. Along exposed sections of Long Island drumlin complex, preserved weathering profile on lower unit is thicker beneath drumlin axes and is either thin or missing in interdrumlin areas. This suggests that glacial erosion and streamlining of pre-Wisconsin deposits and their weathering profile took place after profile developed and before subsequent deposition of overlying unit. Latter drapes erosional drumlin form without contributing greatly to its relief.
