Investigation of the ice cutting process by the rotary drill / N.I. Vasiliyev, P.G. Talalay.
Title: | Investigation of the ice cutting process by the rotary drill / N.I. Vasiliyev, P.G. Talalay. |
Author(s): | Vasiliyev, N. I. Talalay, P. G. Vasiliev, N. I. |
Date: | 1994. |
In: | National Institute of Polar Research. Memoirs. Special Issue. (1994.), Vol. 49 (1994) |
Abstract: | Experiments carried out at Vavilov glacier, Severnaya Zemlya, on correlation between torque, drilling pressure, specific energy of ice rupture, penetration rate and design of cutters. Results show opyimal rake angle to be 15 or 30°, with penetration rate of 30 m h⁻¹ (higher rate did not increase total drilling time significantly) |
Notes: | National Institute of Polar Research. Memoirs. Special Issue. Vol. 49 :132-137 (1994). |
Keywords: | 551.32 -- Glaciology. 551.321 -- Glaciological methods and instruments. 551.321.2 -- Snow and ice, methods of sampling, excavating, drilling, etc. 622.233 -- Drills and drilling, ice and snow sampling. 551.324.22 -- Glaciers: Severnaya Zemlya.
