Record #129649:

Ice coring and drilling technologies developed by the Polar Ice Coring Office / J.J. Kelley, K. Stanford, Bruce Koci, Mark A. Wumkes, V. Zagorodnov.

Title: Ice coring and drilling technologies developed by the Polar Ice Coring Office / J.J. Kelley, K. Stanford, Bruce Koci, Mark A. Wumkes, V. Zagorodnov.
Author(s): Kelley, J. J.
Stanford, K.
Koci, Bruce.
Wumkes, Mark A.
Zagorodnov, V.
Date: 1994.
In: National Institute of Polar Research. Memoirs. Special Issue. (1994.), Vol. 49 (1994)
Abstract: Office is located at University of Alaska Fairbanks. Several types of drilling and coring systems have been developed; logistic considerations are important and comparison is made between drill types associated with system weight, expected power and drilling liquid requirements, and fuel consumption. Recent developments involve hot-water mechanical drilling, improvements in anthifreeze and thermal drilling, development of directional drilling, antifreeze dissolution drilling, and vibratory drilling.
