Record #129458:

An observation of roll waves in a supraglacial meltwater channel, Harlech Gletscher, East Greenland / Steve Carver, David Sear, Eric Valentine.

Title: An observation of roll waves in a supraglacial meltwater channel, Harlech Gletscher, East Greenland / Steve Carver, David Sear, Eric Valentine.
Author(s): Carver, Steve.
Sear, David.
Valentine, Eric.
Date: 1994.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1994.), Vol. 40(134) (1994)
Abstract: Reports pulsating flow conditions, August 1989. Waves of water with turbulent wave fronts and smooth recessive limbs were observed passing downstream at intervals of 6 to 7 s. Peak channel discharge was estimated at 0.5 to 1.0 m³ s⁻¹, in between which discharge was zero. Suggests this was due to formation of roll waves in response to channel morphology and prevalent discharge conditions.
