Comparison between experiment and computer modelling of plane-strain simple-shear ice deformation / C.J.L. Wilson, Y. Zhang.
Title: | Comparison between experiment and computer modelling of plane-strain simple-shear ice deformation / C.J.L. Wilson, Y. Zhang. |
Author(s): | Wilson, C. J. L. Zhang, Y. |
Date: | 1994. |
In: | Journal of Glaciology. (1994.), Vol. 40(134) (1994) |
Abstract: | Agreement is good. Model reproduces deformational and microstructural features caused by glide on (0001) in ice aggregates. Success is prominent for ice grains with lattice orientation suitable for hard or easy glide or kinking, and where there is sub-horizontal c axis and larger grain-size. Limitation may be that model cannot explicitly simulate recrystallization and grain-boundary migration. However, through use of models, it is shown how kinematic factors can control processes of recrystallization. Localization of recrystallization in aggregate is determined by stress and strain variations between neighbouring grains. |
