Record #129386:

Flow speed and calving rate of Kongsbreen glacier, Svalbard, using SPOT images / Bernard Lefauconnier, Jon Ove Hagen, Jean Paul Rudant.

Title: Flow speed and calving rate of Kongsbreen glacier, Svalbard, using SPOT images / Bernard Lefauconnier, Jon Ove Hagen, Jean Paul Rudant.
Author(s): Lefauconnier, Bernard.
Hagen, Jon Ove.
Rudant, Jean Paul.
Date: 1994.
In: Polar Research. (1994.), Vol. 13(1) (1994)
Abstract: Three SPOT images from 1986 are used to determine flow speed and calving rate. Position of 14 reference points was determined on coast or mountain slopes, and changes in position of 144 characteristic features on glacier surface were calculated. Study shows that SPOT images, recorded with periodicity of one year, can be used to determine precise speed of annual flow and calving rate of active glaciers. Images recorded with periodicity of 2, 3, or 4 weeks can allow identical determination on tidewater glaciers during surging active phase.
