Record #129384:
An ice drift series from the Fram Strait January--March 1992 based on ERS-1 SAR data / Reinert Korsnes.
Title: | An ice drift series from the Fram Strait January--March 1992 based on ERS-1 SAR data / Reinert Korsnes. |
Author(s): | Korsnes, Reinert. |
Date: | 1994. |
In: | Polar Research. (1994.), Vol. 13(1) (1994) |
Abstract: | ERS-1 SAR images used to estimate ice drift; all cover same area and sampling period is 3 d. Shows examples of estimation of ice drift and divergence from image time series. Divergence is important in order to estimate ice production and hence mixing of ocean water masses. Reference configuration of ice points is defined for each image; these points are identified in successive images, giving set of point pairs, which are input for statistical analysis. Upward looking sonars (ULS) and current meters are moored below scene. Combination of SAR-derived dynamics and ULS-derived ice-thickness series gives opportunities to estimate ice-mass flux into Greenland Sea, and to impose ice-classification algorithms. |
