Record #129212:

Giellamolsun ja áddenmiella - Manin Guhtura Sámit dál suomastit? / Tuomas Magga.

Title: Giellamolsun ja áddenmiella - Manin Guhtura Sámit dál suomastit? / Tuomas Magga.
Translated title: Speech and understanding - Why the Guhtur Saami now speak Finnish?.
Author(s): Magga, Tuomas.
Date: 1994.
Language: Sami.
In: Tromsø Museums Skrifter. (1994.), Vol. 25 (1994)
Abstract: Festskrift for Ørnulv Vorren. English Abstract p.298. Guhtur is one of five villages Marjut Aikio studied for her doctorate. She concluded that language was changing to Finnish. She missed some important points. Also study of Saami language suffers from inflexible approach. Guhtur has been virtually Saami for a century, with many dialects entering goldfields. First two generations could speak Enare Saami as well. Saami have always wished to communicate with strangers, from necessity. Guhtur changes show Saami can be revitalised with backing from society.
