Record #129120:

Experimental studies of sediment enrichment of Arctic ice covers due to wave action and frazil entrainment / Norbert L. Ackermann, Hung Tao Shen, Brian Sanders.

Title: Experimental studies of sediment enrichment of Arctic ice covers due to wave action and frazil entrainment / Norbert L. Ackermann, Hung Tao Shen, Brian Sanders.
Author(s): Ackermann, Norbert L.
Shen, Hung Tao.
Sanders, Brian.
Date: 1994.
In: Journal of Geophysical Research. (1994.), Vol. 99(C4) (1994)
Abstract: Examines these two processes. In both, sediment enrichment depends upon sediment size and concentration in underlying water column. In wave-dependent process, rate of enrichment is influenced by period, amplitude, and duration of wave action as well as size of ice particles and motion of cover. Frazil rising through sediment-laden water entrains particles of sand more efficiently than silt. Sand-laden frazil floc would often become so loaded that floc would eventually settle to floor of water column.
