Record #129085:
A numerical and experimental study of the artificial freezing of sand / Giancarlo Gioda, Livio Locatelli, Francesco Gallavresi.
Title: | A numerical and experimental study of the artificial freezing of sand / Giancarlo Gioda, Livio Locatelli, Francesco Gallavresi. |
Author(s): | Gioda, Giancarlo. Locatelli, Livio. Gallavresi, Francesco. |
Date: | 1994. |
In: | Canadian Geotechnical Journal. (1994.), Vol. 31(1) (1994) |
Abstract: | Transfer of heat through saturated sand. Main characteristics of adopted finite-element approach, and of technique that introduces latent-heat effects during water--ice phase transition, are illustrated. Then, results of laboratory freezing tests are presented, on basis of which computer program and procedure for calculating thermal constants of soil were calibrated. Finally, parametric study is discussed that concerns effects of pipe diameter, distance between pipes, and coolant temperature on progress of 0°C isotherm. |
Notes: | Canadian Geotechnical Journal. Vol. 31(1) :1-11 (1994). |
Keywords: | 624.139 -- Engineering in frozen ground. 624.139.62 -- Permafrost control. E12 -- Glaciology: frozen ground / snow and ice engineering. |
