Record #128986:

Chemical interaction between picritic magmas and upper crust along the margins of the Muskox intrusion, Northwest Territories / Don Francis.

Title: Chemical interaction between picritic magmas and upper crust along the margins of the Muskox intrusion, Northwest Territories / Don Francis.
Author(s): Francis, Don.
Date: 1994.
In: Geological Survey of Canada. Paper. (1994.), Vol. 92-12 (1994)
Abstract: Presults results of study of upper crustal interaction between picritic to basaltic magmas and enclosing paragneiss in marginal rocks of Muskox layered intrusion. Comparison of margin rocks of Keel dyke of intrusion with those of main chamber indicates primitive magmas of main chamber to have actively assimilated country rocks. Comparison of margins of successive megacyclic units in main body of intrusion suggests that extent of assimilation increased upwards in intrusion. Chemical signature of contamination established in Muskox intrusion provides simple criterion for evaluation of both mechanisms and importance of crustal contamination in layered series of intrusion and in associated Coppermine River continental basalts.
