Abstract: Joint epidemiological survey of psychiatric disorders in children was started in 1989 by child psychiatry units of Finland. This part of survey was to examine prevalence of psychiatric disorders. It studied 1100 8-year old children in two stages. Screening stage had questionnaires for parents, teachers and child; second was thorough interview with a parent and child. 25% of children were identified by screening as possibly disturbed, more often boys than girls.
