Abstract: Species composition, abundance, biomass and spatial distribution pattern of brittle star assemblages of Kolbeinsey Ridge north of Iceland were investigated by analysing seafloor photographs and epibenthic sled catches. Five species were found, only one with density of more than 1 per m². Both slopes were hard-bottomed, but ophiuroid distributions differed. Biomasses were extrapolated by combining abundances from photographic counts with size-weight relationship and size frequencies established from sled catches. Highest masses and largest sizes were found on deep eastern slope.
