The effect of summer feeding on juvenile Arctic fox survival - a field experiment / Magnus Tannerfeldt, Anders Angerbjörn, Bengt ArvidSon.

Title: The effect of summer feeding on juvenile Arctic fox survival - a field experiment / Magnus Tannerfeldt, Anders Angerbjörn, Bengt ArvidSon.

Date: 1994.
In: Ecography. (1994.), Vol. 17(1) (1994)
Abstract: Arctic fox Alopex lagopus L. population in Sweden is small and fluctuates with food (rodent) availability. Recruitment has three phases: number of litters, cubs per litter and cub survival rates. Feeding experiment was in 1990, low rodent density year. Feeding at dens lowered cub mortality rates but did not affect condition and growth rates. Juvenile mortality from weaning and over next six weeks was 21%, mostly due to starvation. Supplementary feeding of juveniles had no affect on final survival rate over two years.
