Det grønlandske spørsmal I. Østgrønlandstraktaten / Knud Berlin.
Title: | Det grønlandske spørsmal I. Østgrønlandstraktaten / Knud Berlin. |
Translated title: | The Greenland question. I. The East Greenland Treaty. |
Author(s): | Berlin, Knud. |
Date: | 1924. |
Language: | Danish. |
Abstract: | Unfortunately, although four Danish parties were represented in 1924 treaty delegation, only two had agreed to abide by results of negotiation. Moreover, Norwegians had shifted from dealing merely in hunting and trapping interests to question of terra nullius. This clashed totally with Danish belief in ownership and retreated from 1921 position of closed land. Dispute extended also to what coastal stretches might have been available for foreign hunting and trapping; Nansen himself noted how Norwegians had scarcely landed in northern parts, so could raise no natural claim. Suggested 20 year limitation to any treaty would merely postpone solution, to circumstances where Norwegian settlements would further complicate matters. |
