Abstract: "Schwabenland" could support seaplane. Ritscher's task, overseen by Nazi official, was to secure German rights in Antarctica including those of whaling. During voyage, Norway declared own rights to area in South for whaling. German regime rejected claim, which covered expedition's sector. Aeroplane managed many successful discovery flights and produced good photos, some shown in article, of nunataks, mountains and land formations. Swastikas were dropped at intervals onto snow. Most photos were lost in war; New Swabia is now Queen Maud Land.
