Record #127194:

An analysis of the use of solar concentrators in hot water drilling / B. Koci, J. Kelley.

Title: An analysis of the use of solar concentrators in hot water drilling / B. Koci, J. Kelley.
Author(s): Koci, B.
Kelley, J.
Date: 1993.
Publisher: Fairbanks, AK: Polar Ice Coring Office
In: Polar Ice Coring Office. Reports. (1993.), CP-93-10 (1993)
Abstract: The AMANDA project requires the lowering of photomultiplier tubes in strings 200m long to a depth of 1100m in polar ice. Instead of fossil fuel fired water heaters the use of solar collectors are described, to create hot water for coring. A one hectare solar collector creating 1-1.25 MW, is planned for the South Pole Station, which also can generate 300 kw electricity as a by-product.
