Abstract: Northern ecosystems are seen as potentially some of most susceptible to climatic change, including possible global warming. Global Circulation Models (GCM) predict, apparently robustly, greatest warming in high northern latitudes. Conference assumed GCM at least qualitatively correct as basis for continuing investigation into effects of probable global change. Sections comprise: climatic scenarios and feedback mechanisms; modelling ecosystem change; vegetation and soil - effects and challenges; ecophysiological relationships and challenges; effects and challenges in aquatic environments; and fauna - effects and challenges.
