Abstract: Presents analytical approach for determining external ice forces on sloping structure from ice failing against unconsolidated rubble field and rubble field with refrozen layer. Assumes that rubble fails by combination of bending of floating ice sheet and block-sliding in rubble. Floating ice and frozen rubble layer are considered as perfectly plastic materials obeying Tresca-type flexure failure criterion; unfrozen rubble blocks are treated as perfectly plastic material obeying linear Mohr-Coulomb yield function. Plots are generated for estimating ice-failure loads against rubble fields surrounding sloping structure for various ranges of ice parameters.
