Dynamic analysis of the medium scale hydraulic ice indentation apparatus / Paul A. Spencer, D.M. Masterson.
Title: | Dynamic analysis of the medium scale hydraulic ice indentation apparatus / Paul A. Spencer, D.M. Masterson. |
Author(s): | Spencer, Paul A. Masterson, D. M. |
Date: | 1993. |
Publisher: | New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers |
In: | OMAE 1993. Proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering. Volume IV. Arctic/Polar technology. (1993.), |
Abstract: | Apparatus described here has been used in four studies conducted in Canadian Arctic, and has applied loads of up to 12 MN at speeds of up to 400 mm s⁻¹. Numerical model of apparatus has been constructed, which includes servo valve, servo control loop, indenter mass plus foundation stiffness and damping. Main conclusion is that characteristic sawtooth load--time waveforms are caused by ice failure and not by servo-loop characteristics. Observed and calculated system stiffness values are in good agreement. |
