Abstract: Interaction between intact ice sheet and structure involves failure of ice in interaction zone and its removal (extrusion). Found possible to simulate this in laboratory. Crsuhing and spalling were observed to occur with centre to mean pressure ratios from 3.0 to 4.0; one test gave ratio of 1.8. Pressures were found to decrease slightly with speed in range 2 to 125 mm s⁻¹.
