| Abstract: | Climate around Iceland is to large extent controlled by North Atlantic Current. Here sedimentary facies, foraminifera and molluscs are used to reconstruct environmental conditions during accumulation of Svarthamar Member unit from Tjörnes sequence. It contains unique record of Cenozoic glacier variations in North Atlantic. Results show that lithological cycle from glacial to proglacial and then to shallow marine sedimentation coincide with faunal succession reflecting change from Arctic to boreal Arctic or even boreal conditions just after Olduvai event. |
