This volume presents intellectual culture of Eskimo of Ammassalik, based again on Victor's notes of 1934-1937 and put in context by Robert-Lamblin. Text consists of legends, poems, traditional magic chants and formulae besides rites and taboos that accompany life of people of the seal - hunting, birth and death. Lists of shamanic words and their Inuit and French equivalents are provided. |
