Record #126786:
Quaternary and Holocene intermontane basin sedimentation in the Karakoram mountains / Lewis A. wen, Edward Derbyshire.
Title: | Quaternary and Holocene intermontane basin sedimentation in the Karakoram mountains / Lewis A. wen, Edward Derbyshire. |
Author(s): | wen, Lewis A. Derbyshire, Edward. |
Date: | 1993. |
Publisher: | London: Routledge |
Abstract: | Deposition of sediments is complex, dominated by glacial and mass movement processes. Valley fills and terraces reach many hundreds of metres in thickness and comprise till, glaciofluvial, glaciolacustrine, fluvial, debris-flow, flow-slide, lacustrine and aeolian sediments. Holocene and Pleistocene sediments deposited in valleys and basins are described in terms of sedimentological characteristics, landforms, and processes that produced them. Six main sedimentary environments are recognized. |
