Record #126736:

The prediction of winter road surface conditions for highway authorities / Paula Newton.

Title: The prediction of winter road surface conditions for highway authorities / Paula Newton.
Author(s): Newton, Paula.
Date: 1993.
Abstract: Aim of review is to assess techniques used to produce forecasts and warnings of formation of ice for highway authorities. Temperature of road and amount of moisture are two key factors. Includes discussion of factors causing large variations in temperature along stretches of road, and examines physical processes which control temperature of surface. Specific models for prediction of road-surface temperature are compared.
Notes:

Unpublished thesis for the degree of Master of Science in Meteorology, University of Reading.

Keywords: 624.14 -- Snow and ice engineering.
624.142 -- Low temperature effects.
624.143 -- Frost and icing, countermeasures.
