The comparison of West Spitsbergen and Franz Josef Land coastal marine ecosystems / Jan Marcin Wȩsławski.
Title: | The comparison of West Spitsbergen and Franz Josef Land coastal marine ecosystems / Jan Marcin Wȩsławski. |
Author(s): | Wȩsławski, Jan Marcin. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Studia i Materiały Oceanologiczne. (1993.), Vol. 64 (1993) |
Abstract: | Two glacier bays, one at Svalbard (77°N) and other on Franz Josef Land (FJL) (81°N), have similar size and climatic regime. Maximal sea temperature is about +4°C at Spitsbergen, while only -1°C at FJL. Water stratification is pronounced in summer at Spitsbergen and weak at FJL. As result more primary production falls to bottom at FJL, hence richer benthic fauna develops. |
