Abstract: Concentrations of trace elements in samples from bottom 30 m of 2035 m deep Greenland ice core were measured by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA). Upper samples contain trace element marker species identifying atmospherically transported material; lower samples contain marker species identifying particles originating from continental crustal lithologies from two sub-ice source areas. This study supports theory that bedrock scouring is origin of particles in bottom 23.6 m of core, and atmospheric transport and deposition is origin of particles above this depth.
