Abstract: 5-day backward air-mass trajectories were computed for each day of DGASP sampling year (August 1988 to July 1989) at 775, 700 and 500 mbar. Trajectories at 775 and 700 mbar were used as transit time analysis to identify locations where air masses have spent most time before arriving at Dye 3. This analysis is augmented by scatter plots showing locations of air masses 5 d before reaching receptor site. Results show that potential source regions influencing southern Greenland vary with season. Most important source regions are south-west of Dye 3 in autumn, west in winter, and north-west in spring; there is less long-range transport in summer. Southern part of ice sheet appears to be influenced by different annual variation of source regions and transport pathways than sea-level Arctic sites.
