Stress analysis of a proposed tunnel under the South Pole skiway / D.S. Sodhi, J.H. Rand, Wayne Tobiasson.
Title: | Stress analysis of a proposed tunnel under the South Pole skiway / D.S. Sodhi, J.H. Rand, Wayne Tobiasson. |
Author(s): | Sodhi, D. S. Rand, J. H. Tobiasson, Wayne. |
Date: | [1993] |
In: | Eastern Snow Conference. Proceedings. ([1993]), Vol. 50th Annual Meeting ([1993]) |
Abstract: | Tunnels are proposed at South Pole station, Antarctica, for movement of personnel and equipment. One will pass under skiway, where transport planes, weighing up to 77 tonnes, have been landing for 20 years. Skiway and tunnel will intersect perpendicular to each other. This study determined depth at which tunnel should be located under skiway so that it is safe from combined geostatic and aircraft loading (at least 6.1 m) |
Notes: | Eastern Snow Conference. Proceedings. Vol. 50th Annual Meeting :347-354 ([1993]). Joint Meeting with 61st Western Snow Conference. |
