Analysis of visible and microwave satellite data for snow mapping in Alaska / Dorothy K. Hall, Carl S. Benson, J.Y.L. Chien.
Title: | Analysis of visible and microwave satellite data for snow mapping in Alaska / Dorothy K. Hall, Carl S. Benson, J.Y.L. Chien. |
Author(s): | Hall, Dorothy K. Benson, Carl S. Chien, J. Y. L. |
Date: | [1993] |
In: | Eastern Snow Conference. Proceedings. ([1993]), Vol. 50th Annual Meeting ([1993]) |
Abstract: | Discusses efforts to improve understanding of Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) special sensor microwave imager (SSMI) snow maps of Alaska by employing NOAA advanced very high resolution radiometer (AVHRR) vegetation and topography data sets to compare microwave-derived results. Results show strong dependence of microwave brightness temperature on topography, land cover and vegetation biomass. This further confirms results of work in other geographic regions demonstrating influence of forests and topography on microwave signature of snow. |
Notes: | Eastern Snow Conference. Proceedings. Vol. 50th Annual Meeting :129-137 ([1993]). Joint Meeting with 61st Western Snow Conference. |
