Greenland ice core "signal" characteristics: an expanded view of climate change / Paul A. Mayewski, and 8 others.
Title: | Greenland ice core "signal" characteristics: an expanded view of climate change / Paul A. Mayewski, and 8 others. |
Author(s): | Mayewski, Paul A. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Journal of Geophysical Research. (1993.), (1993) |
Abstract: | Analysis of major ions in Greenland Ice Sheet Project 2 (GISP 2) ice core from present time to 674 AD yields environmental reconstruction for this period that includes description of nitrogen and sulphur cycling, volcanic emissions, sea salt, and terrestrial influences. Mathematical procedures have been adapted and extended for extracting sporadic events, secular trends, and periodicities found in data sets. By not assuming that periodic components were "stationary" and by using evolutionary spectral analysis, periodic processes in climate system were revealed that change in frequency, "turn on", and "turn off" with other climate transitions such as that between Little Ice Age and medieval warm period. |
