Time delay in the water--ice phase change during soil freezing / Wilko K.P. van Loon, Ies A. van Haneghem, Hennie P.A. Boshoven, Edo Gerkema, Ed Perfect.

Title: Time delay in the water--ice phase change during soil freezing / Wilko K.P. van Loon, Ies A. van Haneghem, Hennie P.A. Boshoven, Edo Gerkema, Ed Perfect.

Date: 1993.
In: CRREL Special Report. (1993.), Vol. 93-22 (1993)
Abstract: Heat fluxes that accompany in situ freezing of pore water were investigated by comparing two independent measurements close to 0°C isotherm: temperature and unfrozen water content. From both measurements, estimation of latent heat flux can be obtained. Calculations indicated that 0°C isotherm penetrated faster than corresponding rate of change in liquid water content. Concludes there is time delay in formation of pore ice, which can be related to time dependence of nucleation phenomena.
