Sea ice: a factor in influencing climate on short and long time scales / Tamara Shapiro Ledley.
Title: | Sea ice: a factor in influencing climate on short and long time scales / Tamara Shapiro Ledley. |
Author(s): | Ledley, Tamara Shapiro. |
Date: | 1993. |
Publisher: | Berlin: Springer |
In: | Ice in the climate system. (1993.), |
Abstract: | Uses coupled energy-balance--thermodynamic sea-ice model (CCSI model) in which various aspects of interaction between atmosphere, sea ice, and ocean have been added progressively. Purpose was to determine magnitude of impact of each mechanism and to determine their relative importance in affecting climate. Characteristics studied here include: leads and albedo; sea-ice transport and impact on ice thickness; snow at sea-ice surface with its different thermal and radiative properties; and variations in amount of snowfall and its effect on sea-ice thickness and lead fraction. Impact of changes external to system are also examined; these include: impact of particulate inclusions in sea ice on temperatures; and impact of changes in solar radiation due to changes in orbital elements of Earth on 10⁴ to 10⁵ time scales. |
