Zonality in the dynamics of the seasonally thawed layer in the landscapes of Yakutia / A.A. Vasil'yev.
Title: | Zonality in the dynamics of the seasonally thawed layer in the landscapes of Yakutia / A.A. Vasil'yev. |
Author(s): | Vasil'yev, A. A. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Polar Geography and Geology. (1993.), Vol. 17(3) (1993) |
Abstract: | Describes pattern of latitudinal zonation within which tundra zone, northern taiga subzone, and middle taiga subzone may be identified. In general, short-term variability in thickness of seasonally thawed layer and length of thaw period, increases from north to south. Local variations in factors such as moisture conditions, accumulation of organic material and aspect, will cause variations in length of period and depth of thaw, and temporal patterns of its onset and duration, and of duration and direction of refreezing. |
Notes: | Polar Geography and Geology. Vol. 17(3) :237-243 (1993). Translation of article in Verkniy gorizont tolshchi merzlykh porod [The upper horizon in permafrost materials]. Moscow, Nauka, 1991 :3-9. |
Keywords: | 551.34 -- Geocryology. Frozen ground. 551.345.2 -- Permafrost, formation and decay. E8 -- Glaciology: frost action and permafrost. (*501) -- Russia (Federation). (*531.3) -- Yakutiya. Respublika Sakha. |
