Record #125841:

Glaciological modelling of the Late Cenozoic east Antarctic ice sheet: stability or dynamism? / Philippe Huybrechts.

Title: Glaciological modelling of the Late Cenozoic east Antarctic ice sheet: stability or dynamism? / Philippe Huybrechts.
Author(s): Huybrechts, Philippe.
Date: 1993.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (1993.), Vol. 75A(4) (1993)
Abstract: Three-dimensional thermomechanical model is applied to entire Antarctic ice sheet to determine ice-sheet geometries that might be expected from various temperature increases, and physical mechanisms involved. Results support concept of stable east Antarctic ice sheet with respect to climatic warming, and point to glaciological difficulties involved to explain ice-free corridor over Pensacola and Wilkes subglacial basins, which would require temperature rise of 17 to 20 K above present levels. Based on these findings, it is difficult to reconcile idea of unstable ice sheet with modest warmings recorded in deep-sea records for Late Neogene (Pliocene)
