Abstract: Evidence from landscape development and surficial sediments in Taylor and Wright dry valleys suggests that ice sheet was stable during Pliocene. Pliocene meltdown would have required air temperatures 20°C above present values, Late Pliocene ice-sheet overriding of Transantarctic Mountains, and possible rapid Late Pliocene mountain uplift of 1000 to 3000 m. Geomorphology suggests that these conditions did not occur.
