Abstract: Technique described is based on concept that cooling of soil sample can be described by temperature gradient and frost penetration rate. Experimental results from series of frost-heave tests using ramping technique were integrated in database. Database includes cooling rate, temperature gradient and water intake for particular soil. New approach is presented combining database (interpolated by cubical spline technique) and numerical modelling, to predict frost heave. Resulting finite element computer program was validated against examples of laboratory experiments and field data.
