Record #125779:

Uplift resistance of pipelines buried in frozen ground / J.F. Nixon, Beez Hazen.

Title: Uplift resistance of pipelines buried in frozen ground / J.F. Nixon, Beez Hazen.
Author(s): Nixon, J. F.
Hazen, Beez.
Nixon, Derick.
Date: 1993.
Publisher: Wushan, Guangzhou: South China University of Technology Press
In: Permafrost. Sixth International Conference. Proceedings (Vol. 1), July 5-9, 1993, Beijing China. (1993.),
Abstract: Design of buried chilled pipelines in frost-heaving terrain requires knowledge of uplift resistance of pipes buried in frozen ground. Describes load-resistance response as pipe is displaced upwards through frozen ground. Series of six tests were carried out, providing general shape of load-displacement curve, and effects of backfill type, displacement rate and temperature. Interesting crack patterns in soil were observed, and their role in limiting or controlling peak and residual uplift resistance is discussed.
