Abstract: Describes laboratory flume experiments with free-surface flows and flows with simulated ice covers of three degrees of roughness (smooth, medium, rough). Effects of ice cover on flow depth, velocity distribution, bedload transport, and bedform topography and geometry are considered. Addition of ice cover is seen to increase depth, reduce mean velocity and reduce bedload transport.
