Record #125623:

A combined surface- and volume-scattering model for ice-sheet radar altimetry / Curt H. Davis, Richard K. Moore.

Title: A combined surface- and volume-scattering model for ice-sheet radar altimetry / Curt H. Davis, Richard K. Moore.
Author(s): Davis, Curt H.
Moore, Richard K.
Date: 1993.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 39(133) (1993)
Abstract: Theoretical model describing volume-scattered power for ice-sheet altimetry is derived, assuming Gaussian distributions for antenna pattern and transmitted pulse shape. Volume-scattering model is combined with Brown surface-scattering model and applied to averaged return wave forms from Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. Results show return wave forms are characterized by varying amounts of surface- and volume-scattering. Surface scattering is predominant in low-altitude regions of Greenland ice sheet, whereas varying combinations of surface- and volume-scattering occur at higher altitudes. In plateau of east Antarctica, volume-scattering is predominant.
