Record #125621:

Sensitivity to climate change of the mass balance of glaciers in southern Norway / Tron Laumann, Niels Reeh.

Title: Sensitivity to climate change of the mass balance of glaciers in southern Norway / Tron Laumann, Niels Reeh.
Author(s): Laumann, Tron.
Reeh, Niels.
Date: 1993.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 39(133) (1993)
Abstract: Simple degree-day model is used to estimate mass-balance--elevation relationship for three glaciers (Ålfot-, Nigards- and Hellstugubreen), based on temperature and precipitation data from nearby climate stations. Study indicates that low-lying glacier in maritime high-precipitation environment near coast is more sensitive to temperature and precipitation changes than high elevated glaciers in dry continental climate inland. However, all studied glaciers will lose mass in warmer climate, unless warming is accompanied by increase in precipitation of 25 to 40% per degree of warming.
