Abstract: Experiments conducted primarily to obtain rheological data useful in modelling internal structure and evolution of icy satellites of giant planets. Data may also be useful for studying Earth's glaciers and Martian polar caps. Time-dependent compaction of small samples of water ice, CO₂ ice and ammonia-water ice with three types of rock components was studied for wide range of rock contents, pressures (2.2 to 17.7 MPa) and temperatures (140 to 261 K). Equation giving compaction rate as function of porosity, pressure, temperature and concentration of rock component was fitted to results. Presence of rock strongly inhibits compaction.
