Abstract: Radar-altimeter data from ERS-1 satellite allow detailed topographic mapping of Antarctica to 82° S, revealing several surface features such as large subglacial lake near Vostok, now mapped in detail. Determines that high spatial-resolution radar altimetry could be used to identify subglacial lakes greater than 10 km in lateral extent.
