Record #125607:
Laterally varying basal conditions beneath ice streams B and C, west Antarctica / Shashank R. Atre, Charles R. Bentley.
Title: | Laterally varying basal conditions beneath ice streams B and C, west Antarctica / Shashank R. Atre, Charles R. Bentley. |
Author(s): | Atre, Shashank R. Bentley, Charles R. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Journal of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 39(133) (1993) |
Abstract: | Uses phase of basal seismic reflections to investigate physical properties of these beds; acoustic impedances of beds of both ice streams vary laterally and high or low impedance depends on changes in nature of sediments or physical state of bed (such as porosity) that could occur laterally. Lateral variations of this kind provide explanation for observations on Ice Stream B. Bed under most of C also must be dilated. Evaluation of state of bed under rest of C and on Ridge BC requires further analysis. |
