Record #125604:

New and improved determinations of velocity of ice streams B and C, west Antarctica / Ian M. Whillans, Cornelis J. Van der Veen.

Title: New and improved determinations of velocity of ice streams B and C, west Antarctica / Ian M. Whillans, Cornelis J. Van der Veen.
Author(s): Whillans, Ian M.
Van der Veen, Cornelis J.
Date: 1993.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 39(133) (1993)
Abstract: Surface velocities were measured on local scale (strain grids), regional scale (repeat air photography) and large scale (repeat Doppler satellite-tracking). Results are more precise than previous work, with 93% increase in number of values. Results confirm that Ice stream B is fast-moving. Bulk of input occurs at up-glacial ends of several tributaries. Lateral shear margins show no sharp bends and are remarkable for being some of longest simple features in ice sheet. Ice Stream C is confirmed as being very slow-flowing; main trunk is almost stagnant.
