Record #125599:

Patterns of calculated basal drag on ice streams B and C, Antarctica / Ian M. Whillans, Cornelis J. Van der Veen.

Title: Patterns of calculated basal drag on ice streams B and C, Antarctica / Ian M. Whillans, Cornelis J. Van der Veen.
Author(s): Whillans, Ian M.
Van der Veen, Cornelis J.
Date: 1993.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 39(133) (1993)
Abstract: Conventional theory does not apply to detailed flow of these ice streams. There are large horizontal variations in surface slope and strain rate that are difficult to explain. Concludes that there are major horizontal gradients in ice strength, as deduced using conventional flow law. Pattern of variation is moving less quickly than ice and may be fixed with respect to bed.
